Junior Sub Editor
Job Description
As Junior Sub Editor, you will be responsible for assisting the sub-editor in bringing out the print editions—this includes the content review, editing, fact-checking, and proofreading. In addition, ensure the timely updation and maintenance of the magazine’s database. Liaise with the digital media team to ensure that the website and social media pages are updated in time and are free of errors.
Essential Job Functions:- Do an active search to find new writers—find new contacts from online blogs, contacts in other regions, or from news correspondences and initiate contact with them to source articles from them.
- Research materials for, and manage content for the regular columns in the magazine, including but not limited to:
- Media Scan
- Upcoming Events
- Regular columns on saints
- Carry out transcriptions for program articles, interviews, and feature articles as and when the need arises
- Manage and update the publication team’s communication databases (maintain strict confidentiality for personal details):
- Authors and Editors
- Contact (Phone, Postal address, email ID, Social media)
- DoB and Photograph
- Communication status
- Authors and Editors
- At the end of each edition, ensure that the following databases are up-to-date
- Articles: received, reviewed, published (Print and Digital)
- Box and regular columns
- Keep track of regular author communications:
- Request for articles
- Response for submitted articles
- Sharing articles and promo links
- Request for magazine feedback (once a year)
- Keep track of review and editing processes by uploading the items for review, ensuring timely review by all members, updating the Editorial Desk status, and streamlining the editing process.
- At the end of each edition’s works, hand over final content of the articles to the respective parties for:
- Translation (also update the translation tracker)
- Digital Media upload
- Kindle
- Coordinate celebration of Birthdays for authors and editors by sending wishes and request Holy Mass on SW prayer in advance
- Organize, ahead of time, sending Christmas Gifts for Authors, Editors, and unpaid Translators (handover the list to respective regions).
- Monitor website, app, and social media updates (daily) to ensure timely updates and report issues or errors–ensure full functionality
- Liaise with the Document Manager to ensure that testimonies and relevant feedbacks are stored in the Folderit system
- Assist the prison POC in the proper and timely documentation
- Meet with the News Team and identify any event, news or content that could be brought up as a featured article
