In what is seen as yet another milestone, Shalom World is collaborating with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) to broadcast live events and various programs in conjunction with the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Christianization in the nation.

The CBCP initiated a year-long celebration of the historic event marking various virtual and live programs which kicked off on November 28, 2020 and culminates on April 22, 2022. The Media Partnership Agreement was signed by Archbishop Romulo Valles, CBCP President.

Shalom World will produce a special series that sheds light on the history of the Church in the world’s fourth-largest Catholic country. As a tribute to the vibrant community of believers in the Philippines, the series will provide viewers across the globe with an extensive presentation of the rich history and exuberance of the Church in the archipelago. With an edited duration of 22 minutes, each episode delves deep into a particular topic concerning the Church. The program host from the US will be joined by two guests from the Philippines and possibly from another country. The program dynamics will be focused on engaging interviews, creatively presented montages, stirring testimonies, and news stories.

The series opens with the history of the arrival of Christianity in the country in the 16th century where, viewers will get a bird’s eye view of how the faith came with the Spanish friars accompanying Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, the first Holy Mass on the island of Limasawa by Fr. Pedro de Valderrama and the impact of the Augustinian friars in evangelizing the country. The succeeding episodes feature different aspects connected to the Church in a manner that attracts viewers.

The abundance of religious orders in the country, the tremendous impact of the Church on social causes, the transformation of the educational system through Catholic schools, and the Filipino missionary priests and nuns catering to the overseas workers and immigrants will be shown in detail in the series. Other episodes include the vibrancy of the local Church, the impact of Papal visits, the beatification/canonization of Filipino saints such as St. Lorenzo Ruiz, St. Pedro Calungsod, and Venerable Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo. The series will also present the modern face of the Philippine Church by highlighting some of the prominent cardinals, bishops, priests and religious, lay ministers, and youth leaders.

Watch the series on Shalom World on the OTT platform, mobile apps, and at www.shalomworld.org. Episodes of 500 YOC will also be live streamed on Shalom World social media pages, the social media pages of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Philippines, and via SW+ on diocese and parish websites in the Philippines, on radio stations such as Spirit FM & CMN Radyo Totoo Nationwide AM Radio Network.
